The Tagalog language was the original official language of the Philippines. Although it is still a main language spoken there, Tagalog influenced the Filipino language which is the present official language of the country (along with English too).

There are about 28 million people who speak Tagalog as their first language. Another 22 million people speak it as a secondary language. The word “Tagalog” comes from the word “Taga-ilog,” which translates to “from the river.”

Most Tagalog speakers reside in the Philippines, but you’ll find communities of Tagalog speakers in other countries too. The biggest Tagalog community is in the United States.
Modern Tagalog was influenced by several outside languages, including English, Spanish, and Malay. It originally used the Baybayin script for its writing system until Spanish colonization influenced it with the Latin alphabet.
The Spanish colonists wanted to Romanize the syllabic alphabet of the Baybayin script. Over the centuries since the colonization, English and Spanish sounds were incorporated into Tagalog.
The Philippines is comprised of over 7,000 islands. The main island is called Luzon. This is where you will find the capital city of Manilla. It is in Luzon where Tagalog is spoken the most and is native to the people born and raised there. Filipinos on the other islands know Tagalog as a second language because of its close association with the Filipino language.
There are 5 different dialects of Tagalog. These dialects include Bataan, Bulacan, Batangas, Manila, and Tayabas. There are fewer phonemes in Tagalog, so you don’t need to worry about changing the meanings of words by making different sounds when you speak them. Only 5 vowel phonemes exist in total.

We provide Tagalog-English language translator and interpreter services.

Tagalog is not known for being a tonal language either. When you speak a word, the stress is placed on the last syllable or its second-to-last syllable. You then lengthen the vowel.
Just because Tagalog shares the Latin alphabet, it doesn’t mean its words are similar to English words. Let’s look at a comparison between English and Tagalog. For instance, “Thank You” is “Salamat;” “Goodbye is Paalam;” “Please is Paki;” “Yes is Oo;” and “No is Hindi.”
